Meet
Greg Montgomery DDS

Associate to sole ownership or immediate outright ownership

In 2016 I graduated from Creighton with the idea of being the best general dentist I could possibly be. I began to furiously consume continuing education and I fell in love with implant dentistry. I completed 800 hours of continuing education in less than 5 years and earned my Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. I soon found out that implants do not solve all problems and what I was being taught wasn't the full story. I quickly bought an office with a DSO and learned plenty from that experience. Let's just say, it wasn't a good fit. While it wasn't what I had hoped for, or had been told it would be, I never let a bad experience go to waste. I consider my time with a DSO as my most expensive and valuable CE yet. I think I'm a better leader, clinician, businessman, and person through that experience. I'm a lifelong learner and can't wait to see what the future has in store for me next.

During my first few years, I was lucky enough to be very close to my periodontist mentor. He would assist me as I placed an implant or performed a sinus lift. He could sense in me that I would never be satisfied as a general dentist and he encouraged me to consider returning for a residency in Peridontics. After deliberating and speaking to my wife over the next year, we decided that I needed to follow my heart and become a Periodontist.  It took a lot of effort to leave my practice and relocate my wife and my one-year-old son and go back to school. I transitioned out of that position and became an associate despite losing some money I knew it was the right thing to do. I look back and I am confident I made the right decision. My wife's family is from Tacoma so she told me that I could apply anywhere but I better get into UW! Luckily everything has fallen into place so far and I couldn't be happier.

I believe that my previous surgical experience and continuing education have prepared me to take advantage of my residency in a way that many people do not have the opportunity to do. While I still have plenty to learn I am confident that I will integrate into private practice a little faster than the average first-year periodontist. I am confident that my previous restorative experience will help me to network well with general dentists and be someone they can trust to understand their needs and desires for the patients they entrust in me.

Although I know you could sell your practice to a DSO, I believe the trust, dedication, and relationships formed between a dentist in private practice and his or her patients cannot be beaten. I will complete my residency in 2025 and while that may seem far away I'm sure you remember how limited time can be during residency. I hope to spend my time during breaks or over weekends getting to know you, your practice, and the surrounding areas better. I would love the time to sit down to hear about both the challenges and successes you have experienced throughout the years, and learn from you however I can. I would be honored for you to consider allowing me to continue the legacy you have built and ensure your patients are given the best care possible.

University of New Mexico

I studied Biology and Psychology from 2008-2012

Las Vegas AAID Maxicourse

An AAID Maxicourse is widely considered the premier implant continuing education for general dentists.

Personal Perio Mentorship

While it may not be an accomplishment I found myself extremely lucky to have a friend and mentor who is a periodontist that was willing to assist me with new surgeries over 2 years while I was completing the Maxicourse and the Comprehensive Implant Residency.

University of Washington Periodontics and Implant Surgery Residency

Once I decided to go back I was lucky enough to Match to my first choice, The UW. I've already learned so much more and I spend every day trying to maximize each experience.

Creighton University

Omaha was where I earned my DDS and met my wife. I studied here from 2012-2016.

Leadership New Mexico Certificate of Achievment

I was the only dentist selected to attend courses around the state with other leaders and learn about New Mexico and the difficulties the state faces. It also allowed us to learn more about leadership and network with important people from around the state.

ADMA Oral and IV Moderate Conscious Sedation

I completed both Oral and IV moderate conscious sedation courses allowing me to receive my permit in New Mexico and perform moderate conscious seadtion to my patients in private practice.

Dental XP Implant Fellowship

This was my first implant CE. It was 175 online hours over a six-month period of time. It was accredited through NYU Langone and created by the Salama Brothers. Some of the lecturers included Dennis Tarnow, Stephen Chu, and Carl and Craig Misch.

Comprehensive Implant Residency

I traveled to Bessemer Alabama 10 times over a period of a year to complete this training at The Foundry Dental Center. Every session was live patient surgery.  Here is where I performed my first 10 fixed arch cases, 6 lateral window sinus lifts, multiple ridge splits, GBR's and a lot of single implants on patients who had graduated from a drug rehab facility from around the state.

Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry

One of the highest recognized achievements in General Dentistry. I received this by completing hundreds of hours of continuing education and taking a written exam.
